National Axe Throwing Federation Affiliated Facility + Leagues

Minnesota Axe is a first-class axe throwing arena sanctioned by the National Axe Throwing Federation (NATF) – the true “Axeperts.”

What Does That Mean and Why Does It Matter?

The NATF is a federally registered organization that oversees and enforces the “rigorous and evolving” rules and safety standards of more than 6,000 competitive players in more than 75 cities, throughout seven countries, across eight different competitive regions, to ensure the perpetual protection of participating axe throwers and awed spectators alike. However, to qualify to use the NATF’s registered name or marks, a facility must satisfy all “safety, sportsmanship and competitive axe throwing standards” and be subject to an annual evaluation to ensure compliance. Of course, as a NATF sanctioned facility, Minnesota Axe is proud to uphold these impeccable standards and core values to guarantee safe, certified entertainment for all our guests.

Rules

Although the NATF was originally established in 2016, the actual rule system upon which the organization was founded – which we enforce at Minnesota Axe – dates back more than 12 years. There are:

  • League Rules; which cover all the pre-match rules, match format and scoring information, stipulations for attendance and forfeits, and details on throwing etiquette and foot faults.
  • Playoff Rules that cover match formatting and scoring information for playoff events.
  • NATF Tournament Rules outlining the big axe tiebreaker process.
  • Other guidelines defining facility safety, equipment specifications, and general axe throwing safety tips and information.

Regulation Arenas

In order for a facility to claim it has a regulation arena, it must adhere to precise specifications regarding everything from sub-frame and target construction, to target dimensions and axe throwing/perimeter lines. There are also several equipment specifications facilities must comply with as well, primarily outlining the dimensions of all the standard axes and big axes that are to be used in the arena. Thankfully, at Minnesota Axe, our arena is fully aligned with the facility standards set forth by the NATF, allowing our competitors and guests to always enjoy a truly authentic axe throwing experience.

Live Scoring

Live scoring can be used to help keep track of every league competitor’s progress in the arena. Scores for live NATF Matches can be accessed online through Axescores’ “Live” page, while the “Stats” page provides valuable information about each individual competitor’s scores for each league, including how many matches they played, high scores, clutches, and more. At Minnesota Axe, we offer live scoring for all our playoff matches; however, you can go online and view our league stats anytime you want!

Access To Tournaments

Each year, the NATF offers leagues throughout the country the chance to compete in a variety of intense tournaments in the hopes of winning the annual National Axe Throwing Championship (NATC) and taking home the Wilson Cup – along with over $25,000! This means that as a sanctioned facility, our leagues at Minnesota Axe are eligible to compete. Think you’ve got what it takes to win it all and become the champion? There’s only one way to find out!
